An extract from the pan-European shortwave station Radio Channel 292. You can tell that the people behind this station are more than a little bitter about the outlawing of pirate radio in the UK in 1967, which simultaneously brought an end to the industry across Europe (pirate stations aimed for British audience were very popular in the rest of Europe). The end of pirate radio paved the way for the eventual launch of Radio 1, 2, 3 and 4 by the BBC - indeed, Radio 1 poached many of the old pirate DJs for the new station.

Fun fact: Radio 1 was originally called "Radio 247" after the frequency it originally aired on. In the UK, until around the mid 1980s, AM frequencies were given in metres rather than kilohertz (e.g 247 metres) and FM was known as VHF (very high frequency).
