ITV voluntarily sold itself to Sky, says CEO
An interesting development has emerged in the Sky-ITV takeover. It’s now been revealed that ITV willingly sold itself to Sky in order to save the broadcaster, according to an interview by Broadcast with ITV’s group CEO (and my old boss), Carolyn McCall. This is certainly an unusual decision, as you surely wouldn’t think that a private company would anything to do with a PSB* let alone wanting to help them out! It makes you wonder what Sky had to offer that was so enticing to

Road to analogue radio switchoff takes a tentative step forwards
Ofcom has recently announced that no more new commercial radio stations will launch on AM and FM transmitters, except community stations where specific criteria applies. Despite the launch of DAB in the 1990s and the rise of streaming services in recent years, FM radio remains popular - especially in workplaces and schools and in the car. FM also offers superior audio quality to DAB as the audio is not compressed, whereas DAB is compressed to the lossy AAC codec. There have l

BBC could create its own version of YouTube
If you can’t beat them join them! BBC DG Matt Brittin has suggested that the corporation could create its own streaming platform in which outside users submit content, similar to YouTube. Speaking at the final TV Festival in Edinburgh before the move to Manchester, Brittin said that such a service would have “a public service algorithm” which doesn’t work for the benefit of private companies. He cited the recent court case against Meta as a factor as the issue has seen substa

While "News 7" has relatively minor changes, "Good Morning Japan" and "News Watch 9" have brand new colour schemes, swapping the
